A new appointment on SmartCast: the Press Roundup. Make sure you don’t miss anything happening in the economy of electronic sports! We will suggest to you a selection of the best press articles that have come out around the web. Here are those that we have liked most this week:
Overwatch- What is the economic model?
With the Blizzcon now over we have the confirmation. Overwatch will be paying! The new brand by Blizzard will be sold at 40 and 60 dollars for the classic edition or the Origins edition of the game. The title which comes out in spring 2016 will be facing heavy competition, a competition that has chosen the free-to-play model. What is the best solution for Blizzard? How will it compete in an eco-system that is turning more and more towards the free model? A great article signed Ferguson Mitchell on Esport Observer.
Does esport depend on sponsors too much?
Lazygamer looks into this and asks the question: does esport depend too heavily on sponsoring? A theme that we really like here at SmartCast. Currently, brands play a key role in the economic model of electronic sport: 80% of revenues would come from sponsoring. Is this a proble? Must esport diversify its revenue stream? Artcile by Kyle Wolmarans.
Uzi and a record breaking $7.85million transfer?!
It’s sales season for League of Legends players. As we are living what should be a year of record breaking transfers, all eyes are on the transfer of Jian “Uzi” Zihao. The Chinese player of the team OMG could fly off to the Royal Club or Invictus Gaming. This news is brought to us by the League of Legends specialist in Asia: Kelsey Moser for The Score Esport.
Meet Graig Barry, the man who wanted to show esport on TV
Gavin Godfrey is meeting Graig Barry, programs director for Turner Sports. The TBS group will start a new adventure in 2016 and showcase a new Counter Strike Global Offensive league. Next year the channel will show nearly 30 video game competitions a week! This is not the first time that Vice have looked into esport. We all remember their documentary made during the League of Legends championships.
