This summer the Electronic Sport League (ESL) has been quite active. The main tournament operator in Europe and world leader in the domain has just made a statement: anti-doping tests will be performed at their competitions.
This decision follows the revelations made by Kory « Semphis » Frisen, former Cloud9 player, who revealed that he and his teammates used to take Adderall, a psycho-stimulant that improves your focusing faculties. Adderall is a medication that is easy to find in United-States. Given these revelations, ESL has had to react and will set up saliva testing at ESL Cologne, from the 20th to the 23rd of August. Players who test positive, will be sanctioned with a cash prize /points reduction up to a full exclusion of every ESL tournament for two years. An important test which will, according to the results, decide the future development of anti-doping policies.
World ranking – it’s on!
Another point, setting up the worldwide ranking system for the best teams. Until now, several tries from external observers have been made without ever achieving any consensus. Even though some of the criteria can seem subjective and won’t satisfy everyone, they at least have the merit of coming from the league itself.
The ranking is based on points won at tournaments. Every player earns points alongside the team as a whole. Check out all the rules. This ranking is good news and a tool for comparison. Many esport fans will enjoy it! The full world ranking can be found here.
