After ending his incredible run, David “Lilbow” Moschetto, a French Stacraft 2 player, finally wins the title of worldwide champion! Sunday 13th of September 2015 is a date that will stay in the memories of French fans all over.
The player from team Millenium has accomplished the exploit of winning the 3rd season of the World Championship series as well as the 30 000$ cash prize that goes with it! His victory grants him the rank of 13th best player in the world and grabs him a qualifying pass to the Blizzcon tournament. There the 16 best players in the world will fight each other for the supreme title!s a sign of our Frenchman’s merit, bear in mind that Lilbow is the only non-Korean player to be in this leaderboard. Several French online new websites like lemonde.fr or lexpress.com wrote about this and talked about his accomplishments. But as if this was not enough, the French government also decided to congratulate the French player and sent out a Tweet. A first!
Une victoire pour les Protoss ET pour la France : bravo @LilbowSC champion #WCS de @StarCraft_FR! http://t.co/NDk26xfnRx #FiersdelaFrance ?
— Gouvernement (@gouvernementFR) 14 Septembre 2015
Obviously this is not Manuel Valls, the prime minister, who sent this Tweet out spontaneously. But then how was it sent? It seems that the initiative of this must be credited to Romain Pigenel, joint director in charge of the digital information governmental service. As we learn from Numerama: this is the prime ministers digital pen. In a special article devoted on Romain Pigenel in the magazine Les Inrocks, we learn that he is a passionate video game player!
Nevertheless this remains a first in the world of electronic sports and an amazing success for the government’s Twitter account with over 2 858 retweets and 1835 favorites! Not bad for an account used to no more than 30 or so retweets on average and also a true surprise. The best part is that this Twitter hit also gave birth to a salvo of press articles talking about this message. We are left wondering now who will be remembered most: Lilbow’s victory or the government’s congratulatory tweet?!
